―Toby's catchphrase

Tobias “Toby” Domzalski is one of the main stars in the Tales of Arcadia franchise, serving as the deuteragonist of Trollhunters, a minor (later major) character of 3Below, and an upcoming major character of Wizards.

He is a student of Arcadia Oaks High, best friends with Jim Lake Jr., the son of Ralph and Mrs. Domzalski, the grandson of Nancy Domzalski, and the current boyfriend of Darci Scott.

Official Description

"There is no one Jim would rather have at his side than his confident best friend, Toby. He offers Jim unwavering loyalty and boundless optimism, as well as the occasional well-timed joke when things get rough. Through all the ups and downs Jim endures on his journeys, Toby acts as his constant, inspiring Jim when he is dejected and keeping Jim in check when he's gone off the deep end."

History

Backstory

When Toby was two-years-old, his parents won the state lottery. So, to celebrate, they went on a cruise together around the world. However, there was a storm and his parents got lost at sea. Afterwards, Toby's nana, Nancy Domzalski, took him in and became his legal guardian.

Toby and his Nana moved into the house across from Jim on the day of Jim's fifth birthday. He met Jim in kindergarten and the two grew up to became best buddies.

At some point, Toby decided to go on a diet to lose some weight, but then he couldn't live up to it, and Jim ended up making an extra lunch for him.

Trollhunters (Part One)

Learning About Trolls

Toby arrives at Jim's house to go to school and they both decide to take a shortcut through the bridge. They discover a strange, glowing amulet in a pile of rubble (Kanjigar's remains) and Jim takes it with him. In class, Toby tries to look up some information on the strange trinket, but cannot find anything except for some plushie toys.

During gym class, Toby tries to convince Jim to talk to Claire, which he somewhat succeeds in doing so. While Jim tries to talk to Claire, Toby struggles on the climbing rope, barely making an inch, until he finally collapses in exhaustion. Because of his lack of exercise, he gets chewed out by Coach Lawrence. In the boys locker room, Toby struggles to even put on his own socks while talks to Jim about the school play, Romeo and Juliet, and that Jim should audition.

After school, Jim and Toby witness Steve Palchuk bullying Eli Pepperjack, who was trying to tell the school about seeing creatures with stone for skin, fighting in the canals (the one where Jim and Toby past through on the way to school). When Jim tries to tell Steve to stop, the bully proceeds to punch Jim in the face, until Toby begins to chant, along with the students, only for Coach Lawrence to stop the fight. Steve then challenges Jim to a fight the next day.

On their way home, Jim and Toby run into Jim's mother, Barbara, who was on her way to the hospital for a shift. They greet her before she takes off. Toby returns home and calls Jim, asking him if the amulet has talked to him yet. Nana then calls for Toby, telling him that dinner's ready, and he hangs up.

The next morning, Toby goes to the dentists office for an appointment. Jim calls him, freaked out by his encounter with Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! and tries to explain everything that happened to Toby. However, Toby is too busy with the dentist to listen, so Jim goes to Strickler instead.

The day after that, Jim visits Toby in his second trip to the dentists office and tries to tell him about the amulet, but again Toby tells him he's a little busy. Jim exclaims that he waited until morning and wonders who goes to the dentist two days in a row. Toby replies that he wants to get his braces off before adulthood and his mouth is like a city engineering project.

After about eight hours, Jim finally explains to Toby what the amulet can do and shows him his new magical armor, much to Toby's amazement. Excited about his best friend's newfound powers, Toby realizes that Jim has a sacred responsibility and suggests that he should use it for his fight against Steve, much to his disbelief.

Just then, Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! return to the house, which causes Toby to panic and call for help (but they immediately hang up, thinking it's a joke). Jim introduces the trolls and a fearful Toby to each other. Blinky then reassures Toby that they mean no harm and explains that Jim is the first human Trollhunter, whose obligation is to protect mankind from bad trolls, goblins, gruesomes, etc.

Toby later asks the trolls who the previous Trollhunter was before Jim. Blinky then explains about the whole system and that the previous Trollhunter was in fact Kanjigar the Courageous, who was sadly killed by a vicious troll named Bular. At this point, Toby begins to understand that Jim could most likely be killed in battle as he's never been in a real fight before, so he tries his best to reassure him that Bular was just lucky, only for Blinky to point out that Bular is a formidable opponent and Kanjigar was also the best Trollhunter out of all the trolls who were chosen to bare the Amulet of Daylight. Knowing that Jim is feeling worry about his new role, Toby suggests that Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! should give Jim a day to process what has happened and then tonight, they will begin his training.

Later on at school, Toby quickly hides Jim in the boy's locker room when he unintentionally changes into his armor. Strickler then enters and Jim asks Toby to distract him, which he reluctantly agrees. However, he doesn't do much when Strickler finds Jim in his armor and becomes suspicious. Toby then tells their teacher that the armor was just a costume for the tryouts for Romeo and Juliet. In the tryouts, Claire comes up to Jim and admires his "costume" and wonders if he made it. Toby blurts out that he actually found a magical amulet that makes it (which Claire thought was a joke), much to Jim's irritation.

Arriving at Heartstone Trollmarket

After the tryouts, Jim and Toby ride their bikes home, until they finally meet Bular, who intends to kill them both and claim the amulet. Both of the boys race all over town, narrowly evading Bular until they finally manage to lose him briefly. They also run into Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! and they both explain that Bular is trying to kill them. The trolls then lead the boys to the entrance of Heartstone Trollmarket after Bular catches up to them.

Uncovering Killahead

Jim and Toby go on a field trip with their class to a museum of ancient history. During that, Toby discovers that some goblins are on the loose and informs his friends about it. They arrive at Eli's house, where the goblins last attacked to stop them. Unfortunately, the goblins get away and leave with Toby's watch.

That night, Jim and Toby track down the watch and break into the museum to see what the goblins are up to. While sneaking in, they find out that the curator, Ms. Nomura is actually a changeling, a type of creature that takes the form of its human counterpart when swapped at birth. During the battle, Jim uses Blinky’s advice to outsmart Nomura and actually causes her to squish the goblin leader, which makes the goblins turn on her and attack her. During the battle, Toby discovers some sort of bridge, which he believes to be the Killahead Bridge. He takes a photo of it, but the picture comes out blurry. Blinky then informs Jim about the changelings, and how there might be more lurking among them.

Changeling Hunt

Jim and Toby take Blinky, AAARRRGGHH!!!, and Vendel to the museum to see the Killahead Bridge, but it has vanished somehow, and no one believes him (except for Blinky, of course). Blinky says that he will try to find more evidence while Jim continues his training.

Back in school, Jim's high school career is going downhill, and Steve has become his understudy for the school play since he keeps missing rehearsals. Claire takes note of this and decides to ask him to come to her house for a study date.

Jim and Toby go back to Trollmarket to get proof that the bridge is there. Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! take them to a troll named "RotGut", who provides them with something called a "Gaggletack", which is a horseshoe. Jim and Toby try to search for the Changelings at their school, but nobody complies.

While Toby is at the dentist, Claire and Jim are at Claire's house having their study session. Here, Jim and Claire start to do some bonding, and Claire claims that Jim's letter was a metaphor for Jim's psychological issues, and thanks Jim for his compliments in the letter. As soon as they study, Toby calls Jim for help and Jim leaves hastily, which leaves Claire suspicious.

Jim arrives at the dentist, where the Changeling, Gladys Groe, is attacking Blinky, Toby, and AAARRRGGHH!!! Luckily, Jim manages to vanquish the Changeling, but also all the evidence they have for the bridge. On the plus side, Jim accomplished Blinky's rule of "finishing the fight."

New Roommate

The next day, Jim and Toby find a stuffed bunny fall out of the sky, and Claire claims that it belongs to her baby brother, Enrique. The boys then conclude that Enrique must have been swapped with a Changeling since Blinky told them earlier that Changelings are switched with their human counterparts at birth.

To investigate, Jim arrives at Claire's house to babysit Enrique and find out. When Enrique somehow starts causing trouble, Jim loses the gaggletack and now, the others have to get a new one.

When the gang arrives, Enrique is revealed to be replaced with a Changeling, who starts trashing the place. Now that they have proof, they can do something about the bridge. Unfortunately, this leads to Jim and Toby being in big trouble with Claire, and Claire getting into trouble with her folks. Claire refuses to speak to Jim anymore.

Jim's Birthday

Jim's birthday eventually arrives, but he does not seem interested in celebrating it, despite the insistence of his friends and mother. Luckily, Jim is given a chance to test drive a moped that he has had his eyes on for quite some time. However, another sub-species of a troll called a Stalkling shows up to attack Jim.

Jim learns from Blinky that he cannot be harmed unless he is truly all by himself, so he decides to make sure he is in the company of someone at all times. Jim goes to rehearsals to try to make amends with Claire and to keep himself safe. Unfortunately, Claire still doesn't trust Jim after her parents blamed her for leaving Jim with Enrique.

Without a ride to take him home, Jim is left on his own and tries to get away from the Stalking, but it catches up to him and carries him into the clouds. All of a sudden, lightning appears and Jim uses it on his sword to strike the Stalking and turn it into stone, in which he succeeds.

A few minutes before his birthday ends, Jim goes back to Trollmarket to receive Blinky's present, which is an unassembled moped that Blinky thinks that they could assemble together. Jim loves the gift and claims it as "the greatest gift [he] has ever gotten."

The Grit-Shaka

One day, while training with Draal, Jim feels a little nervous about talking to Claire and the play. To help him, Draal gives him a special necklace called a Grit-Shaka, which will boost his confidence and fearlessness. Unfortunately, Jim begins to act smug, arrogant, rude, and disrespectful towards his friends, teachers, and classmates. To make matters worse, Jim decides to go fight Bular himself in the sewer. In this battle, Jim hears Bular call him "Young Atlas," which is Strickler's nickname for him, which causes Jim to figure out that Strickler is a changeling. During the fight, his Grit-Shaka gets smashed, reverting him back to his old self, which helps him use his cleverness to escape.

Having found out about Strickler being a changeling, Jim decides to come up with a plan; he'll keep Strickler occupied while he's having dinner at the Lake residence and the others will sneak into Strickler's office for some things that could help them get Claire's brother back and find any information on the whereabouts of the bridge.

During dinner, Jim and Strickler look at each other with grinning faces, knowing of their dark secrets. When Barbara leaves to get dessert, Jim and Strickler start fighting each other, threatening one another at the same time. When Barbara's back is turned, Strickler changes into his Changeling form, threatening Jim to hand over the amulet, but Jim refuses to comply. When the dinner ends, Strickler leaves the Lake House, with Jim acting subtle, not knowing that Strickler replaced the amulet with a fake one. Draal then shows up with Claire (who fainted after seeing Draal in the basement), but Jim quickly told him to hide before his mother could see him.

Covert Operation

While Jim confronts Strickler at his house for dinner, Blinky, Toby and AAARRGGHHH!!! go to Strickler's office to find something he might have to help them fight the Gumm-Gumms and get Claire's brother back, using Enrique to help them get inside. They search around for a Changeling lock, until they manage to find a secret entrance behind a bookshelf.

They go inside and manage to find a place filled with blueprints for an amulet that looks exactly like Jim's and read some books for possible information. Toby then finds a Fetch, which is a small portal to the Darklands. All of a sudden, some black smoke emerges from Strickler's Antramonstrum and the trio run for their very lives. Blinky and AAARRRGGGHHH!!! try to distract the smoke, but the smoke goes after Toby instead. Using the school's vent, they manage to use the Fetch to suck the smoke into the Darklands.

Fighting as Jim's "Sidekick"

Claire begins to start training on how to use the Shadow Staff and starts becoming an instant expert. Toby becomes jealous, so he gets a weapon for himself as well, "The Warhammer." Unfortunately, he doesn't quite catch on as fast as Claire did. Bagdwella then arrives with a package for the Trollhunters to mail to her sister in Utah, and they agree.

Since Jim is participating in another competition after lunch, he sends Toby and Claire to mail the package for him. As soon as Jim leaves, Toby and Claire are ready to go deliver the package, but Toby has lost the address and starts panicking while looking for it, which makes Claire frustrated. In a panicked state, Toby accidentally opens the package, unleashing the spell contained inside.

In math class, Toby starts levitating, which causes a disturbance among his students and the teacher. Claire and Toby get themselves excused and decide to go to Blinky to help them figure out exactly how to undo the spell. On their way, they catch the attention to a police officer, who begins questioning them. As soon as the cop's back is turned, Toby starts floating again and Claire uses a kite to help keep him from floating away. As Claire pulls Toby down, Toby admits that he felt as if Claire was trying to take his place as Jim's sidekick, but Claire assures him otherwise.

They arrive at Jim's house, where the curse gets passed on and Blinky explains that only Vendel can help them undo the curse. Claire decides to use the Shadow Staff to get them to Trollmarket but is having some trouble doing so. Luckily, Toby, Blinky, and Draal manage to anger Claire enough to have her conjure up a big enough portal to get to Vendel and reverse the curse. After that, Claire and Toby start getting along better.

Trollhunters (Part Two)

Covering for Jim

After Jim goes into the Darklands to save Enrique, the other Trollhunters carry AAARRRGGHH!!!'s remains to Blinky's library. NotEnrique decides to leave and go home, but Claire stops him because they need to find a plan to rescue Jim and cover for him on Earth while he's away. NotEnrique refuses to help them, even when Claire continues to threaten him. Blinky tells Claire that only a Trollhunter can enter the portal to the Darklands, rendering her efforts pointless. Just then, not Enrique receives some text messages from Draal, who is at the hospital guarding Jim's mother. The other Trollhunters decide to help Jim's mom if they can't help Jim himself. This motivates Blinky into coming out of his pity party and start trying to look for ways to help cover for Jim and get into the Darklands.

They go to Jim's neighborhood to find Barbara (who has been erased of her memory of Jim's Troll hunting career) heading home. They rush up to her and she demands to know why they are not in school and why Jim is not with them. Claire quickly lies and claims that school is canceled and Toby claims that Jim is at cooking school, which Barbara easily believes. When Barbara is about to continue driving home, not Enrique (in his human form) decides to start crying to distract Barbara, but that still doesn't stall Barbara enough.

They arrive at Jim's house to see that the Lake Residence is surrounded by the police after the battle between Jim, Strickler, and Angor. When Toby and Claire try to cover up the mess again, Barbara starts to become suspicious and demands them to tell her the truth. Just then, Blinky shows up disguised as Jim and clears things up with the police. He gets Barbara to go inside and takes the others to the other side of the house and explains to them about his Glamour Mask, which can help him take on anyone's form. Blinky hands Toby the mask, but he accidentally breaks it, prompting the gang to try to find another plan.

Plan K

Claire, Toby, Blinky, not Enrique, and Draal head to the gyre and go to an undersea volcano to help them with their new backup plan. Blinky hands them some bundles of costumes designed by the Krubera tribe to help them withstand the darkness and crushing pressures of the deepest mines, called "Graven Garbs." Just then, the volcano erupts and sends the protagonists to the bottom of the ocean.

The Trollhunters arrive in a place called the "Mariana Trench", where they encounter a Deep-Sea Troll called the "Kelpestrum", which spends most of his time swallowing a whole bunch of rare Troll artifacts, one of which could be another Glamour Mask. Unfortunately, the Graven Garbs start to deteriorate, since apparently, they do not handle the oceans as good as they do with mines. When the creature opens its gills, the Trollhunters enter the respiratory system and slide right down the gullet. Just then, some Volcanic Trolls emerge from the innards and start to gain upon the Trollhunters. Claire tries to conjure up a portal, but one of the Volcanic Trolls snatches the staff out of her hand before she can do it. Toby, feeling that he has failed Jim, takes out his Warhammer and decides to fight the Volcanic Trolls with Draal, who easily takes out all of the Volcanic Trolls. Unfortunately, one of the trolls swallows the Shadow Staff. Claire and NotEnrique attack the troll, who hacks up the staff. Just then, the Graven Garbs start to fill up with water, and they are shot right out of the Kelpestrum's blowhole. The gang, the staff, and the masks start to sink into the ocean. Luckily, not Enrique manages to save the staff, and Blinky saves one of the masks. Claire conjures up a portal and they are sent back to the gyre.

Jim Lake Disease

The next couple of weeks, Toby starts impersonating Jim at home to make sure Barbara does not find out about the Darklands but begins to feel guilty for stealing Jim's identity. He also starts sending some candy bars to Jim in the Darklands.

At that same time, Claire covers for Jim at school by claiming that Jim has a contagious terminal illness called, "Jim Lake Disease" and is currently being quarantined in the hospital. She creates a fake webpage and hands Eli a coin collecting jar to "find the cure" for Jim.

The Troll is the Key to the Hunter

Claire and Toby go back to Trollmarket and try to help Blinky find a way to get the real Jim back, when all of a sudden, the Krubera tribe arrives to destroy the Killahead Bridge so Jim doesn't endanger Trollkind anymore. That night, the portal to the Darklands opens up and Jim is on his way with Enrique. Toby and Claire try to stop them from destroying the bridge so Jim can get out, but only the amulet and Enrique manage to escape, and the bridge is destroyed, trapping Jim in the Darklands.

Blinky, Claire, and Toby go back to the library to ponder on what to do next. Just then, the amulet starts speaking to them and tells them, "the troll is the key to the hunter." They start to ponder this hint but do not understand it. However, Toby figures out that what they meant is that AAARRRGGHH!!! is the one who can help them get into the Darklands to rescue Jim. Blinky starts to look into a book about AAARRRGGHH!!!'s curse, so they can track down the creator of the poison, and therefore find a cure, only to find out that the people who created it were "The Janus Order", which is a group of Gunmar followers.

Just then, Vendel arrives and puts the three on probation for their actions the other day. Vendel informs them that the Tribunal Order has sent the remains of the bridge to be thrown into the bottom of the ocean to prevent any more harm. Luckily, Claire has a little plan in store for her friends.

Stealing the Bridge

Toby and Claire arrive at school, where people are still concerned about Jim's fake illness. However, Steve isn't buying it and believes that Jim is being a sore loser because he beat him for prom king.

That night, Toby, Claire, and NotEnrique go into the woods to retrieve the crates containing the bridge pieces. Claire conjures up a portal and finds herself in a ship with the crates. When she starts sending the crates back through the door, the captain announces that the crates will be dumped into the ocean in just a few minutes, so they throw the pieces out one-by-one. Suddenly, Claire starts getting tired and loses her confidence. To give her a motivation, not Enrique starts provoking her, causing her to conjure up bigger portals and get the crates out just in time for Steve (who followed them to the woods) to be knocked out cold.

The Janus Order

The Trollhunters find Otto Scaarbach downtown and proceed to follow him towards the Janus Order, but Toby's recklessness causes them to get caught and he runs away. They try to follow him, but they end up losing him in an alley.

The next day, Toby gets some new headgear from Dr. Muelas, which starts picking up some freaky signals from the radio. That night, Blinky and Claire listen closely to the signals, which turn out to be coordinated for the location of the Janus Order.

The coordinates lead to a travel agency. They manage to break into the building and find a secret passageway to a hidden room, where they discover an entrance to an underground lair. They realize that this must be the place where the Janus Order concocts magic hexes and evil plots for Gunmar. Claire and Toby managed to get past security by having Claire pass herself off as a Changeling from Argentina.

The two then arrive at the meeting, where they discover that the Changelings are planning more than just the return of Gunmar; they are also planning to resurrect their other leader, who is known by the Changelings as their "Lady Creator". Before they can get more information on the cult, Toby's braces cause them to get caught and get chased by the whole Janus Order.

Otto manages to capture Blinky, Claire, Toby, and NotEnrique and takes them to some sort of strange room. After Otto takes off Toby's headgear, Otto tells them to steal Vendel's staff in exchange for the antidote. Reluctantly, they steal Vendel's staff and give it to Otto. Blinky reads the list for the ingredients and it says that first, they need, "the tears of one who has never been kissed" (that one being Toby), some expired food, a rat, a skeleton of gnome, and a fragment of a Hearthstone.

To The Darklands

They return to Trollmarket and mix the ingredients together, causing a large cloud of blue smoke, which eventually restores AAARRRGGHH!!! back to normal. After going on a brief rampage (he was still fighting when he got turned to stone), AAARRRGGHH!!! sees Toby and calms down, which makes everyone overjoyed to see him again. Just then, AAARRRGGHH!!! is summoned by the Fates and encounters the spirit of Kanjigar, who then goes into his body.

Kanjigar informs the team that since AAARRRGGHH!!! has died and now come back to life, he can use AAARRRGGHH!!!'s body to open up the Darklands portal since only a Trollhunter can use it. They take the Gyre to the park and Kanjigar manages to open up the portal. He then goes back to the beyond to rejoin the other Trollhunters, and leaves Draal to guard the portal, should anyone escape.

Claire, Toby, Blinky, and AAARRRGGHH!!! enter the Darklands and find themselves in a pretty tight spot as they try to cross a narrow bridge. Blinky accidentally drops a flare that Kanjigar gave them, so he and AAARRRGGHH!!! go down the bridge to retrieve it, but end up getting captured by Blinky's evil twin brother, Dictatious. After searching for a brief time, Toby and Claire find Jim all locked up. Before they can get him out, Gunmar's minions arrive and take Jim to battle Gunmar. Toby and Claire track Jim down, only to find that Nomura has been assisting him in escaping. The group manages to reunite and engages in a battle with Gunmar and his minions. Just when hope is lost, Draal arrives and manages to save them all at the last minute, and make it out of the bridge just in time. When they make it back to Earth, AAARRRGGHH!!! and Draal destroy the bridge to prevent any more disasters from occurring. Claire is overjoyed to see Jim once again and kisses him. They then head home, not knowing that Gunmar, Dictatious and some Gumm-Gumms have made their way to Earth as well.

Coming Home

Now that Jim is out of the Darklands and back on Earth, the gang becomes concerned with Jim's strange and joyful behavior. That joy doesn't last long, however, as Vendel and Troll Tribunal have come to confront the Trollhunters for their actions.

Later that night, the Trollhunters find out that Blood Goblins have invaded Earth. Blinky informs them that Blood Goblins will stop at nothing to destroy the person they are hounding. Jim believes they are hounding him since he was the last person in the Darklands.

They go back to Toby's house only to figure that Chompsky has been presumably killed by the goblins. Toby then snaps at Jim and demands why he rushed into the Darklands without his friends, despite how many times he said he'd take them with him. It is here that Jim admits his mistakes and begins to feel pathetic and useless for putting his friends and the world in danger, but Blinky assures him that he has become more than the amulet or anyone has ever expected of him. Just then, AAARRRGGHH!!! picks up Chompsky's scent, confirming that he is still alive and well.

The gang follows Chompsky's scent back to the warehouse and finds out that the goblins are roasting him on an open fire. Using their skills and some fireworks that Toby found, they manage to rescue Chompsky, defeat the goblins, and witness Chompsky's "marriage."

The Flour Sack

One day in class, Coach Lawrence assigns the students to care for a flour sack as part of a parenting lesson. As fate would have it, Jim and Claire are paired up and are instantly proud parents to their sack.

After school, Jim and Claire meet up with Darci and Toby (who were also assigned together) at a malt shop to hang out. Toby promises Darci to take care of their "baby" while she is out at an event she is supposed to entertain.

As the Trollhunters walk home, Toby confesses that this is his favorite assignment since his parents were reported lost at sea when he was a baby. Just as they arrive home, a Gruesome attacks them and steals Toby's backpack with his rock collection. Blinky, Draal, and AAARRRGGHH!!! inform them that the Gruesome is probably on it's way to the rock show at the museum. They give them a special rock, which will explode on impact when the Gruesome consumes it.

They arrive in the museum, only to find that Darci has arrived at the museum since the football game ended early. Toby tells Darci to take the sack home, but Darci decides to stay and watch the rock show. While Toby tries to keep Darci and the baby out of trouble, Jim and Claire search for the Gruesome. Jim accidentally runs into Steve (who is secretly on a mission with Eli to investigate the Trollhunters), and goes into the bathroom, not knowing that Steve has followed him.

Jim fights the Gruesome in the bathroom, but he cannot stop him. Jim accidentally destroys his sack and the flour starts to weaken the Gruesome. Jim calls Toby and informs that he needs to sacrifice his "baby" in order to save the day. Toby reluctantly takes his flour sack and sacrifices it to the Gruesome (not knowing that it was really Steve and Eli's sack). Just before Toby can inform Darci of their predicament, Claire shows up with their flour sack.

In the end, Toby and Darci are the only students who passed the assignment, since all the other sacks got destroyed in some way. As the bell rings, Toby and Darci walk home hand-in-hand with Jim and Claire in tow and high hopes for their futures.

The Fall of Trollmarket

When the Trollhunters arrive at Trollmarket, they find the Troll Tribunal putting Jim on trial for his actions. When they find out that Jim is actually being prosecuted for allegedly releasing Gunmar, Claire and Blinky decide to find out who could be truly responsible for Gunmar's release. Toby and AAARRRGGHH!!! stall for time and evidence, but Usurna keeps overruling them, and NotEnrique keeps unintentionally proving Jim more guilty.

Blinky and Claire get back to the trial, but Ursuna (who has killed Vendel) instantly finds Jim guilty and sentences him to exile in the abyss. The gang chases after Jim, and he is thrown into the abyss, where he becomes face-to-face with some sort of person who looks like himself. Jim survives and manages to escape. The Trollhunters then find out that Usurna is actually behind all of this and had actually killed Vendel.

Realizing that Trollmarket is in serious danger, the Trollhunters go back to the Janus Order, where Gunmar is planning his invasion, thinking that Jim is dead. When they start to attack, Gunmar destroys the entire Janus Order and he invades Trollmarket to absorb the Heartstone's power and do something else.

The Trollhunters get back to Trollmarket and interrogate Dictatious into revealing what he knows. After spinning him around for some time, Dictatious reveals that since Gunmar's army of Gumm-Gumms is stuck in the Darklands, he is going to brainwash all of Trollmarket and make them his new army.

With the help of the Creepslayerz, the Trollhunters manage to help the trolls escape to safety. When Gunmar and his minions start getting close to the gang and the rest of the trolls, Claire uses all the power in her staff to conjure up a portal big enough for the entire escapees to make it to Earth and the streak on Claire's hair turns white. Later that night, Claire begins sleepwalking as a result of the Shadow Staff's power and becomes under the control of Morgana Le Fey, the evil witch.

Trollhunters (Part Three)

Hiding the Trolls

While the Trollhunters try to help the trolls find a new home, they put up some signs with symbols that will prevent the Gumm-Gumms from attacking. However, they keep vanishing under mysterious circumstances (which is, unknowingly to them, Claire being possessed by Morgana). The gang decides to have AAARRRGGHH!!! go undercover as one of the Gumm-Gumm soldiers by using one of their masks after Jim took out one that attacked them.

A Wanted Man

The very next night, Toby and AAARRRGGHH!!! go into the alley and find out that a troll named, "Glug" has gone missing and they believe that she might be connected to the recent robberies in town. They got to see RotGuy and they inform them that Glug is a troublemaker. Just then, the police show up and capture Toby (the officer is the same one who tried to arrest him and Claire when the anti-gravity curse activated).

Toby is taken to the station, where he meets Darci's father, Detective Scott, who doesn't approve of Toby dating his daughter, due to his record. Detective Scott starts to interrogate Toby for some information and takes him into the patrol car. Detective Scott goes to the scooter shop, where there were more robberies and the owner recognizes Toby from when he and Jim took his Vespa. Toby then calls Jim to inform him of the robberies Glug is committing. Just then, Scott finds Toby calling his friends and assumes that he is the robber. Toby locks the door and starts to drive the car, very slowly. Toby escapes the car and runs away.

Toby goes to Claire's house and informs Jim and Claire of his predicament. Jim calls Blinky, who is trying to settle of conflict of two trolls over some vanishing signs, for help. The Trollhunters meet each other in the sewer to look for Glug. Jim decides to have the team split up; Blinky goes with AAARRRGGHH!!!, Jim goes with Claire, and Toby goes by himself.

Toby then finds all of the missing stuff in some sort of secret lair. He then sees the real thieves and gets hog-tied to a chair. Just then, Detective Scott arrives and finds Toby tied and gagged. The thieves then grab the Warhammer, knock Scott out cold, and run off with the scooters and the hammer. Toby manages to escape the confines of the lair and chases after the thieves (with Jim in tow). Jim catches the thieves in a dead-end and the female thief is about to hurt Toby when all of a sudden, Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! manage to scare them into turning themselves into the cops.

The very next day, Ophelia awards Toby and Detective Scott with medals of honor for stopping the robbers. Detective Scott then allows Toby to date Darci, but only if he's the chaperone. Darci then runs onstage and starts kissing Toby, much to everyone's disgust.

While Claire stays at home in bed, Jim and Toby go to school with a bucket of Gravesand from Strickler. Just then, Jim drops the bucket and accidentally switches it with a coffee can from the teacher's lounge. Coach Lawrence, Señor Uhl, and Miss. Janeth drinks the ashes and starts acting feral.

In the locker room, Jim, Toby, Steve, and Eli call Strickler for some help. Stickler informs them that the only way to change the teachers back to normal is to get through to their vulnerable sides. After getting the students to evacuate the school, the boys each decide to take one teacher. Steve takes Lawrence, Eli takes Janet, Jim takes Stickler, and Toby takes Uhl.

Toby goes into Señor Uhl's classroom to find something he deeply loves, but can't get through to him. Just then, Eli intervenes and tries to hold Uhl back while Toby thinks of something. Eli tells Toby that Uhl loves his truck and tells him to remind their teacher of that. Toby reminds Uhl of how much he loves his truck and that returns Uhl to normal.

Becoming Arcadia's New Protector

With Trollmarket destroyed, the trolls must find a new home. Jim and Claire decide to travel with Merlin and the trolls, while Jim leaves Toby and AAARRRGGHH!!! in charge of protecting Arcadia in their absence. Toby says a tearful goodbye to his best pal and the two say that they are proud to have taken the canal that day.

3Below (Part One)

Diablo Maximus

Toby appears and warns Aja about the Diablo Maximus burrito. He immediately becomes dumbfounded when he witnesses her eating the entire thing with absolutely no digestive problems, especially when she decides to ask for seconds.

Krel and Varvatos later approach Toby and wonder if he is one of Earth's rulers (which Toby misunderstands as he proclaims himself as Duke of Spring Fling), and introduces himself. Krel asks Toby if he knows where a Daxial Array is, and Toby, thinking it's a band, suggests looking at the record store.

Time Loop

One day, a trickster troll named Porgon goes on the loose and the Trollhunters start to track him down. Porgon finds a part from Aja and Krel's ship and uses it to vanish. Blinky assumes that it's because he has somehow found a way to control time and space.

The next day, the kids go to the science fair to see if Porgon got there. Jim bumps into Aja and introduces himself. Just then, Porgon arrives and starts attacking the fair. Before Jim can activate his armor, Aja uses her shield to block Porgon's attacks, causing them to be protected when Porgon sends everybody back to earlier.

Aja goes back to the science fair and finds herself experiencing the same day. Jim then informs Aja about how Porgon is apparently using the Akiridion stick and the troll magic to cause a time loop. Aja then reveals her true form to Jim when explaining the Akiridion stick. They are sent to back to Jim's house from earlier and the two inform each other of their ambitions. Aja wants to stop Porgon right away, but Jim stops her and calls the other Trollhunters for assistance.

Both teams meet in the woods, where both of their mentors begin to have a bit of a tiff. They go inside the museum to stop Porgon, but Aja's impulsiveness only causes them to fail again. They go back through the time loop and have a meeting at Aja and Krel's house to discuss how they are going to plan their attack on Porgon. The teams conclude that combining the Dekyon Charger and his Troll magic, he is able to control time and space itself, but if he combines it with the Daxial Array as well, time could be destroyed. Jim tries to formulate a plan, but being impatient, Aja goes off on her own. Naturally, she fails again and is sent back through the time loop.

When she goes back to the house, the others call Aja out on her recklessness. Aja snaps about how determined she is to become a warrior and to defeat the bounty hunters who are out to kill her. Varvatos explains to Aja that all the training in the world cannot prevent accidents or mistakes, there will be consequences no matter what, while Jim tells Aja that you need to be patient and all the help you can get when facing a life-or-death opponent. Aja ponders this and reluctantly agrees.

The gang decides to put magic stones on the students' volcanoes to distract Porgon while stealing the charger. When they cause the volcanoes to spew out real lava, they manage to defeat Porgon and retrieve the charger. Unfortunately, that also means that they have been exposed to the public. Krel decides to destroy the charger, but that also means the events and their memories will be erased. After some reluctance, Krel destroys the charger and everything is reversed.

With no memory of Aja or Krel, Jim accidentally bumps into Aja again during the science fair and apologizes. When he asks her if she's alright, she says that everything is "awesome sauce," a phrase only Toby says, and he and Toby continue enjoying the planetarium.

Whereabouts During the Bonfire

Darci explains to Mary in "Party Crashers" that Toby went with Jim and Claire to visit his "Uncle Marlin" (while he's really on a quest to awaken Merlin) and was unable to go to the party.

The Eternal Night

Toby is seen in the crowd in his new armor and later fights the Gumm-Gumms when the war begins.

3Below (Part Two)

Aliens in Arcadia

Two weeks following the Eternal Night, Eli calls Toby over to his house to show him what he has discovered. Insinuating that the Eternal Night was just the tip of the iceberg, Eli shows him his conspiracy wall, linking trolls, wizards and aliens. Toby becomes skeptical when Eli stated his suspicion that Aja and Krel were aliens. Eli tells him that he's assuming Aja and Krel are came to Earth to make trouble, so he and Toby decide to team up and capture them by setting up trap all over town with Nougat Nummys. Lacking impulsive control, Toby began to wrestle Eli for the Nougat Nummy.

The next night, the boys set up traps all over town and see Aja riding on Steve's bike, believing that Aja stole and brainwashed him, and start tailing them. As the couple met up with Krel, Toby narrowly gave himself and Eli away due to indigestion over all the Nougat Nummys he ate. They soon tackle Steve to the ground just as the Tarrons' their human forms wear off. Toby exclaimed that Eli was right and fainted while Eli attempts to attack the royals, but Steve stops him, informing Eli that Aja and Krel mean no harm. Just then, a bounty hunter named Magmatron arrives to capture Aja and Krel to collect his bounty. The five soon run for their lives as the bounty hunter renewed his attacks. When his hammer deflect off Aja's shield and sprays water from a fire hydrant on him, weakening him, Toby confidently assumed they could beat him. Just as he pulls out his warhammer, Magmatron steals his line, "It's hammer time!" Worse, to his disappointment, his friends chose to flee rather than fight. He followed them and cut through the same shortcut he used to avoid Bular, narrowly avoiding being hit by the hammer and they soon get away as Magmatron was preoccupied retrieving his weapon.

The Tarrons bring Toby and his friends to their Mothership, much to Toby' amazement. Upon entering the bridge, Toby began playing with the controls, accidentally setting off the self-destruct, though Krel disarms it at the last second. Krel then attempted to manually access Mother's files only for the AI's glitches to begin playing Varvatos Vex's logs, which reveal Vex's crush on his nana. Disgusted that Vex thinks of Nana as "hot", Toby desperately tried to switch off the video only to switch to another video displaying his combat skills.

Aja then directly inquired Mother about Magmatron and her exposition identifies him as a Cindorite, which is practically indestructible. She attempts to name his weakness only to malfunction Eli gets and alert on and sees that one of his alien traps got triggered.

Gearing up, they head to the sewers and find the royals' bodyguard, Zadra, captured in the trap. Toby asks how can they tell a good alien from a bad one, when suddenly, Magmatron shows up and attacks. Toby attempts to counterattack only to hurt his entire body when his weapon made contact. Magmatron retaliated by knocking him back; Toby remarked he's gotten rusty since Jim's departure.

As the Tarrons fought Magmatron, Toby helped the Creepslayerz free Zadra before resetting the trap to use on Magmatron; Toby used his warhammer to act as a weight to hold him up. This allowed Aja to interrogate Magmatron on Vex's whereabouts before he freed himself, knocking Toby out cold. As his allies desperately held his divided hammers from returning to him, Toby was roused by water dripping from an overhead pipe and realized that the Cindorite's weakness is water. Acting quickly, he threw his warhammer at a nearly pipe, spraying Magmatron again, weakening him enough for him to be destroyed by his own weapon. Aja and Krel apologize to Zadra for sneaking out and Zadra apologizes for not believing them about good humans, deciding to make Toby and the Creepslayerz their new allies.

The next morning, Toby lends the use of his warhammer to move the Mothership back to its original crash site.

The next night, Stuart retrieves his spaceship from Area 49-B to help them rescue Varvatos on the moon. Eli and Toby lend Aja, Krel, and Stuart Darci's mole costume for cover. Additionally, Toby provided the royals with a cover story that they were all having a sleepover to distract Zadra. When Zadra called the Domzalski residence to inquire on the status of her charges, Nana initially misunderstood her inquiries before Toby wrest the phone from her and assured Zadra that the royals were safe and totally not on the moon.

Physical Appearance

Guillermo del Toro kept repeating that Toby should be 'just like him when he was a preteen' so that was our first inspiration. Rodrigo Blaas and Guillermo wanted a 'vintage' look for him with the idea that all his clothes were picked by his grandma. We had fun with dressing him up with '70s patterns, bowties, and hairstyles. He's timeless.
―The Team at Headless Animation Studio[src]

Toby is a short (approximately 5 feet 2 inches[1]), overweight boy with orange-red brown hair and green eyes.

He wears a red diamond-patterned sweater vest over a yellow and orange button-up shirt, brown pants, and white shoes. For all of the series, he wears braces.

In his homemade armor, he wears a stove pot on his head like a helmet and has a flashlight taped to the side. He carries a blue locker door as his shield, a metal tin-can on his right wrist, and a lunchtray strapped to his belly with his phone taped to it. He also has two spatulas twisted around his legs like greaves.

In the episode "In Good Hands", Merlin creates a real suit of armor for Toby, which fits his fat physique. Toby's armor is an orange suit of industrial-like knight's armor, complete with a breastplate (the chest area), pauldrons (the shoulder areas), vambraces (the forearm areas), gauntlets (the hand areas), tassets (the hanging bands that protect the thigh areas), greaves (the leg areas), and sabatons (the feet areas) with orange trimmings. Underneath the armor, there is dark orange inner layer. His helmet even has a built-in flashlight (which could most likely be the headlight from Jim's Vespa).

Personality

Who better to be by Jim's side, offering unwavering loyalty, boundless optimism, and a well-timed sense of humor than his best friend, Toby? Through all the good times and the bad, Toby is the best friend that Jim can count on to be by his side. Always the optimist and brimming with confidence, Toby will never let the odds get him down. With tacos in tow, Toby is always up for a quest!
The Art of Trollhunters

For the most part, Toby is a happy-go-lucky, cheerful guy who is always there for his friends when they need either a laugh or moral support. Following from that, one of Toby's greatest quality is his loyalty to Jim, being there for the latter when he was first introduced into the world of Trolls to fighting side-by-side whenever threats arise.

Despite his more cheerful nature, Toby is kinda emotional, dramatic, and somewhat of an attention seeker. He shows traits that most likely show that he is (possibly) diagnosed with histrionic personality disorder. Like when Jim was elected as a candidate for Homecoming King, Toby's main reason for wanting him to run was so that he could become "duke" and gain recognition from the more popular students. He even became jealous of Claire after she gained the Shadow Staff and becoming more useful to the team, so he acts quite obnoxious to her as he continually recalled how she lost Killstone, but he later apologizes to Claire for his behavior. In Part Two of 3Below, this (speculated) disorder comes more into light when he began directing his own fan film featuring Krel and his friends for a competition. He often dramatically exasperates over the slightest mistakes, even if it was mostly by accident and/or inexperience (evening almost "firing" Eli for making a suggestion he didn't want to hear).

Powers & Abilities

Powers

  • Above-Average Physiology: Though not on par with Jim Lake or even a regular person, Toby is slightly stronger than a fat person of his age. His feats and abilities is not being able to keep up with a normal human like Steve Palchuk.
    • Strength: Toby is able to lift a petrified troll head for several hours, as well as climb up and down a rope with visible strain.
    • Durability: Toby was shown to be durable enough to take a punch and whack from a troll.
  • Gravity Increase/Decrease (limited): After he became cursed with gravity magic, Toby was briefly able to levitate and become super heavy, although without warning as he didn't have any control over this. After the curse was transferred into his Warhammer, he gains better stability and uses his weapon as a cohort for his new magic, making it super light and super heavy at his unconscious command. He still had trouble adjusting to it, but then gradually gained better control over it as the series progressed.
    • Gyrokinetic Flight (limited): Toby’s ability developed to the point where he could practically make himself fly in the air with his Warhammer during his battles with Morgana and Morando.

Abilities

  • Undying Loyalty: Compared, likewise, with Jim's humanity, one of Toby's greatest qualities is his loyalty and willingness to help out his friends. He remains completely loyal to those closest to him through and through until the very end, whether being willing to protect them and never abandoning them in any dire situation. As described many times, his loyalty to his friends is unwavering and he rarely-to-never doubts his relationships with certain people, including his friends and family. In "Recipe for Disaster", even after learning that AAARRRGGHH!!! was a man-eating Gumm-Gumm general, he still considered him his "wingman". In "Jimhunters", despite his distaste for climbing, he still climbed three stories just to catch up with Jim (who was immensely depressed by the limits of his new form) and help him accept his new reality.
  • Warhammer Wielding: Toby's dexterity with his Warhammer is almost as impressive as Jim's with his sword and Claire with her staff (although this is partly because of the gravity curse trapped inside of it).
  • Combatant: After training himself with his Warhammer, Toby has grown quite efficient with direct combat against minor enemies, but not with direct hand-to-hand combat against more major enemies.
  • Tolerant Metabolism: Toby was able to build a three-year tolerance to eat a spicy Diablo Maximus burrito without any digestive problems (as Señor Uhl had to use the bathroom for the whole entire day after eating just one bite).
  • Geology: Toby is fairly knowledgable with gems and minerals, as he recognized almost every crystal and stone within Heartstone Trollmarket during his first visit. Blinky even remarks that his knowledge of minerals is almost close to a troll's. He also has his own rock collection. According to The Art of Trollhunters, Toby's nana taught Toby the different types of gems.

Weaknesses

  • Mortality: As a human, Toby possesses a mortal soul, so is therefore vulnerable to injuries, sicknesses, old-age, and even death.
  • Obesity: Despite his training, Toby's large stomach makes him pretty much always stuck in between something when he tries to sneak into a house. It also limits his combat skills as he was clearly unable to fight Steve head on.
  • Overconfidence: Although undyingly loyal and well-meaning, one of Toby greatest quirks is his overconfidence and constant need for (unnecessary) attention. He often flirts with girls he barely knows, which only creeps them out and make himself look weird (but he later dials down his flirting nature when he starts dating Darci). In "Airheads", he became jealous of Claire gaining the Shadow Staff and becoming more useful to the team, despite him being in the group longer, so he often acts quite obnoxious to her and continually recalled how she lost Killstone (albeit most of the blame could be contributed to him as he was wasting time pretending to be the Shattered King), but he later apologizes for his behavior.

Equipment

  • Warhammer: The Warhammer is Toby's choice of weapon. It has the ability to change how it is affected by gravity (due to the gravity curse trapped inside), becoming very light or very heavy. In Part Two, Blinky repurposed it so it could be able to extend and retract into an ornate handle-like piece. Although he had trouble wielding it for a while (due to it suddenly shifting between weightless and heavy without warning) Toby seemed to gain greater control in wielding the Warhammer, even using it to fly during his battles against Morgana and Morando.
  • Homemade Armor: In a few episodes throughout the series, Toby made his own homemade armor consisting with a stove pot with a flashlight and a locker door as a shield.
  • Armor: At the end of "In Good Hands", Merlin crafts Toby his own suit of armor which protects him from mortal damage and his helmet even has a built-in flashlight.
  • Glamour Mask: In Part Two, while Jim was in the Darklands, Toby used the Glamour Mask to cover up Jim's disappearance from Barbara. Later on, Toby uses it to disguise himself as Vendel in order to steal his staff.
  • Elix-Lore (briefly): After many exhausting hours of trying to find a way to get the Inferna Copula off of Strickler in "Party Monsters", Toby uses a bottle of Elix-Lore from RotGut's to help speed things up. However, instead of taking a draft like the instructions said, he drinks the entire bottle, thus he begins craving more knowledge from the books to the point where he can't control himself. Luckily, the effects wear off of him in the end.
  • Headgear (briefly): In "Grand Theft Otto", Dr. Muelas gave Toby a headgear for his braces after he broke his jaw chasing Otto Scaarbach. Interestingly, Toby's headgear was able to pick up local radio waves and frequencies, including secret transmissions from the Janus Order. However, Otto later removes and takes Toby's headgear from him so he wouldn't be able to eavesdrop on the Order's transmissions again.
  • Diablo Maximus Tacos/Burritos: Toby almost always carries a bag of spicy tacos and burritos wherever he goes, including on his trollhunting missions. He once used his tacos to upset Gatto's stomach enough to "exit" his keep in "Roaming Fees May Apply", and later used a large burrito after finding the Kairosect in "It's About Time". He claims that he spent three years building up a tolerance for eating a diablo maximus burrito without receiving digestive problems.

Relationships

Jim Lake Jr.

Jim Lake is Toby's best friend. Since kindergarten, the two have remained inseparable and Toby often gives Jim advice on how to impress the ladies and to boost his confidence (which often turn out more bad than good). Sometimes, Toby can be possessive of Jim but is always supportive of him and vice versa. At times, Toby acts as Jim's voice of reason, such as when he advised against eliminating Stricklander in favor of obtaining the location of Killahead Bridge, or from using the Furgolator to enter the Fetch at small size since the shrinking effect is temporary.

Claire Nuñez

When Claire learns the truth and begins joining the group, Toby grows competitive and mocks her about how she was unable to capture the Killstone. In "Airheads", while they both try to deliver a package for one of the trolls, Claire accuses Toby of being jealous of her and Jim's relationship. Toby then confesses that she seems to have more than him while all he possesses are weight problems. Claire reassures him that she couldn't come between him and Jim, as they are the "dynamic duo". Later on after that, Claire and Toby become good friends.

AAARRRGGHH!!!

AAARRRGGHH!!! and Toby became fast friends in the blink of an eye. When the Killahead Bridge was discovered, Toby was more than enthusiastic to have AAARRRGGGHH!!! as his new bodyguard and roomie. Toby is always there to give AAARRRGGHH!!! pep talks and really looks out for his "wingman." When AAARRRGGHH!!! got turned into a statue, Toby was especially devastated and actually managed to defeat Angor Rot. When the troll was resurrected, Toby managed to get AAARRRGGHH!!! out of his violent state and his normal, gentle self.

When Toby was given the mantle as Arcadia's protector, AAARRRGGHH!!! decided to stay with Toby, proving his undying loyalty towards his "wingman."

Blinky Galadrigal

Toby and Blinky are undoubtedly close friends. When they first met, Blinky often mistakes Toby's name a couple times, until he finally manages to correct himself. Whenever Toby has questions, Blinky is happily ready to answer them.

Darci Scott

Before Spring Fling, Toby asked every non-Claire girl in the school to go to the dance with him but they all said no. Toby had a crush on the girl that was in the mole mascot but didn't know who she was, but during the prom, Toby started dancing with the mole and when they were announcing king and queen, Darci turned out to be the girl inside the mole mascot. Darci only said "No" to Toby the first time he asked her to the dance because Darci wanted Toby to go with her for her personality, not popularity. Darci invited Toby to go up with her on stage for the crowning.

Since then, the two have had a romantic relationship. When Toby stopped some robbers and gained her father’s respect, they began making out in front of the whole town (much to everyone else’s disgust). During the final battle, a Stalking takes Darci and Toby uses his warhammer to fly up and go get her.

In Part Two of 3Below, Toby told Darci about Aja and Krel being aliens, since they have agreed not to have any secrets between them.

Eli Pepperjack

Eli and Toby don't have much interaction over the series, but they have a fairly decent relationship, though not as close as the latter's friendship with Jim, and later on, Claire.

During 3Below, Toby and Eli begin to interact a lot more and they team up to help Aja and Krel adapt into the human world and get back to their planet (after realizing they’re not evil). They later direct a movie together for the opening of the local drive-in.

NotEnrique

Toby has a clashing relationship with NotEnrique, due to his self-serving nature. However, after he defects the changelings and joins their cause, they seem to now at least view each other mutually.

Krel Tarron

At first, Toby and Krel had a mutual relationship.

Later in Part Two of 3Below, after Toby learns that he and Aja are aliens, he was instantly shocked. However, after getting to know one another, they form a close friendship. Krel even decides to stay on Earth so he can be with Toby and other friends he's made there.

Aja Tarron

Toby and Aja first met in the episode "In Good Hands". Aja was instantly fascinated by Toby's braces while he found her rather "odd".

When Toby learns that Aja and her brother are aliens, he was shocked at first, but quickly got over it and they became close friends. Of course, Toby was quick to notice that Aja doesn't have a lot of tactical skills like Jim does and that she usually prefers to attack head-on without much of a plan.

Nancy Domzalski

Nancy is Toby's grandmother. In "Wingmen", Toby tells AAARRRGGHH!!! that Nancy took him in after what happened to his parents, and knows she loves him. He says he thinks of that whenever he gets frustrated with her. As shown in "Where Is My Mind?", Toby's greatest fear is getting kisses from his nana.

Ralph & Mrs. Domzalski

When Toby was only two, his parents won the state lottery. They went on a cruise together around the world, until their ship got caught in the middle of a storm, and Toby's parents never made it back.

Toby admits that he doesn't remember much about his parents, just stories his Nana tells him. He also says that whenever good things happen to him in his life (including his trollhunting part), he likes to think it's because they're watching over him.

Colonel Kubritz

Toby views Kubritz as deplorable, especially after she kidnapped him and AAARRRGGHH!!! and attacked Arcadia just to draw him and the Tarrons out.

General Morando

Although Toby and General Morando never met each other in person, after hearing from the Tarron's of the horrible things he has done to their family, he clearly saw him a trouble. They officially meet in "Race to Trollmarket", but never fought each other directly. Later in "A Glorious End, Part Two", a god-induced Morando threatened to kill Toby after he tries to fight him.

Trivia

  • In the book, Toby's nickname was "Tubby" and his last name was Dershowitz. This was referenced by NotEnrique in the episode "Recipe for Disaster". Tubby is also Jewish.
    • The name 'Domzalski' comes from Polish origin.
  • He claimed to be sexually declined in "Airheads".
  • A running gag throughout the franchise is that characters often either talk about, comment, joke, or insult Toby's braces.
  • By "The Eternal Knight: Part 1/Part 2," Toby flying in the air with his warhammer is a possible allusion to Thor from the Marvel Universe as he is able to fly with the aid of his hammer Mjølnir.
  • In "Win, Lose, or Draal" Toby's height is revealed to be at least 5 feet and 1 inch.
