James Sturges is the main protagonist in the novel Trollhunters. He is a Sturges paladin chosen to fight against the Gumm-Gumms. He is the nephew of Jack Sturges, a great human trollhunter.
History
Jim's mother left him and his father because his father was overprotective and to her, a little crazy. Jim has never had a great breakfast since, and is tired of his father being so overprotective and possessive of him. Jim always loved his father but sometimes is very angry at him and frustrated at why he must be so safe. Jim understands that his father lost his Uncle Jack, "the bravest kid he knew" during the San Bernadino Milk Carton Epidemic.
Learning the existence of trolls
Jim was always irritated by his father's overprotective measures. But one day, under a car, the arm of a large troll grabs him and he and his friend Tobias Dershowitz must find out if he's crazy or if Jim Sr. is the sane member of the family. He and Toby stake out, and meet the troll again, along with the troll's "partner-in-crime".
