The ring was created by the evil witch Morgana of antiquity with whom Angor Rot made a deal to obtain great power in exchange for his soul. The witch used the ring to make Angor Rot murder the Trollhunters, but currently it's unknown how she lost it.
Centuries later, Strickler came into possession of the ring and used it to manipulate Angor Rot and destroy Jim. However, Angor Rot made a deal with Jim to retrieve the ring in exchange for his letting him live and severing the connection between Strickler and his mother.
Jim was able to use the Kairosect to remove the ring from Strickler but in his attempt to use it to control Angor Rot, they went into battle. However, Angor unintentionally destroyed the Inferna Copula, along with his own soul.
The Inferna Copula allows its wearer to control Angor Rot's every whim. It also protects them if Angor tries to harm them, whether directly or indirectly.
It can also show its bearer the location of his whereabouts.
