A lot of the story takes place in the school, so we needed it to be a versatile set where you could shift from emotional scenes to a big action set piece. We designed it with an open courtyard in the middle to have timeless quality and to bring natural light so it would contrast with the darker troll caves that our heroes would visit on their journey.

We approached designing characters with a minimalist shape-language, very much spearheaded by Headless Animation Studio's designs. We wanted to incorporate Guillermo del Toro's and Rodrigo Blaas's taste for organic enriched characters who felt appealing and genuine.
